Larsson describes in Me his first artistic attempts, recording how he plundered his father's meagre library in order to cut figures out of the printed pages in the manner of cut-out silhouette portraits. It is possible that this represented a consolidation, even at this early stage, of his great gift in fixing a figure or an object by means of a clear contour.
